Dr.
Eckley began his orthodontic practice in Beckley in 1974.
He has since opened offices in Oak Hill, Summersville,
and Pineville to better serve patients. He is a native
to Huntington, West Virginia and attended Marshall University.
He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from West
Virginia University. While in dental school, he was awarded
a Board of Governor's scholarship and the Senior Award
in Dental Radiology. Dr. Eckley completed his orthodontic
training at WVU with a Master of Science degree in orthodontics
which required original research and a thesis.
Having served a three year tour of duty as an Army dentist,
Dr. Eckley was awarded three Bronze stars, the Vietnam
Air Medal, the Vietnam Army Commendation Medal, and a
Certificate of Appreciation in Dentistry from the United
States Army.
Dr. Eckley is certified as a Diplomate of the American
Board of Orthodontics and is a member of the College of
Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. The
American Board of Orthodontics is recognized by the American
Dental Association as the only certifying Board in the
specialty of orthodontics. Nationally only 20% of orthodontics
have achieved this distinction.

Being a civic minded resident, he is very involved in
community projects with the Beckley Rotary Club and the
Chamber of Commerce in Raleigh, Fayette, Wyoming, and
Nicholas counties. He is a past member of the Beckley
Area Foundation and a former Board Member of Mountain
State University. He is the coordinator of and a volunteer
dentist for the Second Grade Dental Exam Programs in Raleigh,
Fayette, Wyoming, and Nicholas counties.
Dr. Eckley attends many continuing education courses in
orthodontics each year and is a charter member of the
West Virginia Orthodontic and Orthopedic Study Club. He
is a graduate of the prestigious Pankey Institute, one
of the premier continuing education programs in the country.
His hobbies include golf, tennis, skiing, fishing, biking,
and reading. He and his family attend St. Stephen's Episcopal
Church.
His wife, Linda is a Dental Hygienist who also works as
the office manager. They have three children: Brett, Marybeth,
and Travis.
Meet Dr. Brett
Dr. Brett joined his father, Dr. Edward Eckley, in June 2004. Dr. Brett was born and raised in the Beckley area and
attended local schools. He received his college degree
from Hampden-Sydney College and he returned to West Virginia and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and Master of Science degree in orthodontics - both completed at West Virginia University.
While a member of West Virginia University’s School of Dentistry, he received the Basic Sciences Achievement Award in 1999, Region 6 ASDA Delegate of the Year 2000, the ASDA Award of Excellence, Oral Biology Award and the Student Research Award, all in 2001. Other accomplishments while in dental school include: Dean’s List (1997, 1998, 1999), President, Student Research Group 2000; Editor, ASDA Newsletter 2000; President and Delegate, ASDA 1997-2001. In addition to these accomplishments, Dr. Brett has conducted original research and some of his work has been published.
Dr. Brett has attended continuing education courses all over the country and is trained in the newest cutting-edge orthodontic treatments. His interests are fishing, skiing, golf, computers and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Melanie, have two young children. They attend St. Francis Church and enjoy all the outdoor activities southern West Virginia has to offer.
